【摘要】:ComparisonwithOtherInclusionRatingMethods8212;Becausethetestisperformedonavolumetricratherthanasurface-examinationbasis,theultrasonicmethodisinherentlybetterabletodetectinfrequentlyoccurringlargeinclusionsorclustersofsmallinclusionsthaneddycurrent,magneticparticle,microscopical,ormacroscopicexaminationprocedures.LimitationofInclusionSizeandType8212;Alimitationofthemethodisthatitwillnotdetectallinclusions.Inclusionchemistry,size,shape,location,anddistributionmaylimittheabilityofthemethodtoprovideindicationsdistinctfromthosegeneratedbythesurroundingmetallurgicalstructure.Therecommendedpracticeisonlymeaningfullyapplicabletoexaminationofsteelwhereintheinclusionsizeandtypearewithinthedetectioncapabilitiesofthemethod.Forsteelwhereininclusionsize,dispersion,andchemistrypreventoptimuminclusiondetectionbyultrasonics,microscopicalmethodsdetailedinTestMethodsE45maybeapplied.1.1Thispracticecoversaprocedurefortheratingofrectangularsteelsectionsbyimmersionultrasonictechniques.Itspurposeistoprovideinformationonthecontentoflargeinclusionsorclustersofsmallinclusionsfordeterminingthesuitabilityofasteellotforbearingapplications.Thispracticeinnomannerdefinesorestablisheslimitsofacceptability.1.2Forthisdocument,largeinclusionsaredefinedinultrasonictermsasthosehavingareflectingareaequivalenttoorlargerthana1/64-in.diameterflat-bottomholeinasteelreferenceblockofsimilarpropertiesandthickness.Inmetallographicterms,largeinclusions,definedinthisway,areofapproximatelythesamesizeasthesmallestdetectablesizesrevealedbythemacroscopicmethodsofTestMethodsE45.Insomecases,inclusionssmallerthanthosedescribedpreviouslycanbedetectedeitherindividuallyorinclusters,dependingontheirtype,chemicalcomposition,orientationtotheultrasonicbeamanddistancefromthesoundentrysurfaceofthespecimen.1.3Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
